The Engage Biography Series: Sean Collard
An introduction to Sean Collard in his own words:
My name is Sean Collard, I am a Field Service Construction Manager and Shareholder of Engage of Engage Construction Management and Consulting Inc. headquartered in Sherwood Park, AB.
After graduating with Academic Honors from Eagle Butte High School in Dunmore, Alberta, I attended Medicine Hat College on scholarships to pursue a degree in Engineering. With the birth of my first son and the financial expectations mounting I made the difficult decision to delay my studies and enter the work force. My logical shift was if I can’t design it, I’ll build it. My teenage summers had been spent as a construction laborer so I decided to “do what you know.” So, I began work for a local Pre-Engineered Building Contractor which carried into an apprenticeship. Post completion of my Metal Building System Erector Journeyman certification at NAIT I was awarded top apprentice in my class for the province of Alberta. My experiences carried me across Alberta, to the Diamond Mines of the NWT and back to Fort McMurray where I parlayed my experiences into Structural Ironworking and Heavy Rigging. With another Journeyman Red Seal Certification from NAIT in my pocket I was involved in numerous major projects in the Wood Buffalo region and learned from some of the best tradesman Canada has to offer. As the years moved on I began to diversify my skills and garner a more comprehensive understanding of all aspects of the industrial construction processes, utilizing this knowledge and experience to execute Construction Coordination and Manager roles.
In 2015, when I was exposed to the “Engage Model” for the first time it instantly resonated with me, addressing numerous points of contention and frustration I had witnessed time and again both from the contractors and owners perspective. With the help and mentorship of Kevin and Ian I had found that outlet to make a difference in how Projects should be executed
At Engage everyone has a voice and we are stronger together, our experiences are used to complement and motivate each other not undermine and compete. We take pride in our jobs, family and community where we share in our successes and collectively grow from our mistakes.
