The Engage Biography Series: Kevin Kuly

An introduction to our founder and president, Kevin Kuly, in his own words:

“My name is Kevin Kuly; I am the President and Majority Owner of Engage Construction Management and Consulting Inc. headquartered in Sherwood Park, AB. Like many Albertans, my career started at a very young age (15/16) in the oil and gas industry on a service rig enduring remote locations, extreme conditions and long hours. Without a formal degree or a high school diploma my options were limited, but I was ambitious and desired to move up to provide the best for my young family. I shifted my focus from the oil rigs to the pressure welding trade where I worked hard and took every opportunity to advance by obtaining specialty welding certifications and field supervisory positions.

Over those early years I watched and learned and listened to the guidance of some key mentors in my life. One of those mentors, Ian Martin, is now my partner in Engage and to this day I still rely on his 30+ years of senior executive leadership experience. I moved from the lunchroom to the boardroom to become one of the youngest directors of one of Alberta’s major industrial mechanical contractors. From this exposure and experience I realized there was a niche opportunity to bridge the gap in client and contractor relationships. In 2012 I walked away from the company truck, the health benefits, guaranteed salary and vacation time to test the “Engage model” and all I had learned.

As with any business it has taken a lot of hard work, persistence and dedication. The first few months I worked from my truck spending long days sitting between a copy center (photocopier access) and a coffee shop (internet access) fine tuning the Engage corporate brochure hoping to get that first break from a client.

As any good leader knows; the key to success is to surround yourself with great people, every Engage employee is a manager in their own right and has been hand selected to complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses. I fostered the ideas of Engage and started the ball rolling but together we keep pushing to increase the momentum.

As we celebrate our 7th year of operations, we are very proud of what we have accomplished, the bench strength we have obtained and the reputation of Engage that we have established as a collective team.”
